Battery 223, Lower Township (Cape May County)

This massive concrete bunker built as a military struct during World War II is still sitting on the beach in Cape May. The walls measure seven feet thick, and it was constructed on top of thick wooden pilings. It is assumed that the bunker once held munitions. It was built in 1942, and a sister bunker stands across the bay in Lewes, Delaware.
